Weekend Wrap-Up

The Panthers finished up the first half of the Horizon League season by splitting two more matches. UWM beat Wright State in four sets Friday night before falling to Valparaiso in five sets Saturday.

Player of the Week
Rachel Neuberger, junior, MB, Muskego, Wis. Neuberger put together a stellar weekend defensively, collecting an amazing 27 blocks over the two matches. She started by recording 10 in the win over Wright State Friday night before adding a collegiate-best 17 in the five-setter with Valparaiso Saturday. The 17 blocks is easily the best tally in the league this season and Neuberger’s double-figure performances this weekend are two of just six around the league this year. She became the first Panther to reach double figures in blocks in two-straight matches since Natalie Schmitting in 2007.

News and Notes
Milwaukee has now played eight 5-set matches this season, including in four of its last five contests in league play. The five-setters haven’t gone the way of the Panthers, though, as UWM is 1-7 in 5-set contests this year … that’s quite a change from recent seasons, as Milwaukee entered this year 25-12 in five-set matches under Susie Johnson. Plus, the eight 5-setters have UWM threatening the school record of 11 five-set contests, set in 1998 … Milwaukee collected a season-high 101 digs in Friday’s win over Wright State. Three players had at least 20 digs in the contest … Elizabeth Egerer set a collegiate-best with 20 digs against the Raiders … Julie Kolinske went past 20 digs in both of the matches this weekend, tallying 22 against Wright State and 24 against Valparaiso … UWM’s 19 blocks against Valparaiso marked a team season-high … freshman Maggie Dunbar started both matches over the weekend and collected 25 total kills … Anna Bartz has now surpassed 900 digs in her collegiate career.
