Panthers Face Off In WPSL Elite Championship

Keara Thompson's Western New York Flash got the better of the Chicago Red Stars and Jamie Forbes, 3-1, in the inaugural Women's Premier Soccer League Elite Championship last weekend in Sacramento, Calf.

The Flash won a league title for the third-straight year in a different league, also winning the W-League in 2010 and the WPS in 2011. Thompson was in her first year with the team after completing her eligibility with Milwaukee in the fall. Thompson appeared in 12 games on the year and tallied an assist.

Forbes shepherded the Red Stars into a WPSL final for the second-straight season. The team fell in the WPSL title game in 2011. She was a rock in net for Chicago, which made the jump to the new Elite league this season. Forbes was one of the top keepers in the league for a team that allowed just 13 goals in 16 games this season.

Forbes, who joined Thompson on the NSCAA All-Region First Team in 2011, returns to Milwaukee in the fall for her senior season. She was the Horizon League Goalkeeper and Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a junior while posting an 18-3 record, 0.66 GAA and 11 shutouts.
