Woman of the Match
Krissy Dorre is continuing to get better after missing the first games of the season with an injury. She looked dangerous the entire game and showed some great bursts of speed at times.

Notes
Milwaukee still leads the series 20-7-5 ... this was the Raiders' first win in Milwaukee since 1989, the first meeting in the series (2-10-2) ... the Panthers' six-game losing streak ties a school record ... UWM lost its league opener for the first time since 1997 ... the loss was also just the team's second in league play at home since 2000 (40-2-1) ... Abbey Hoerchner made her collegiate debut ... she is the third true freshman to play for Milwaukee this season.

Marquette Invitational Notebook

The Panthers are moving on to league play after wrapping up the early portion of their non-league slate at the Marquette Invitational this past weekend. UWM lost three hard-fought matches against a very high level of competition. In fact, the three opponents entered the weekend with a 22-6 mark.

Player of the Week
Julie Kolinske, OH, So., Big Bend, Wis. Kolinske continues to post big numbers in the early season. She claimed a spot on the all-tournament team by averaging 4.00 kills and 3.08 digs. She had a double-double in each contest this weekend and now has 12 this season. Plus, she had 22 kills against Marquette, the third time this season she has reached that number.

News and Notes
Freshman Sammi Herron emerged as a key performer for the Panthers this past weekend. She had 13 kills against Iowa and 10 more against Pacific … Anna Bartz had a collegiate-best 29 digs vs. Iowa … Bartz is now up to 772 digs in her career and remains on pace to pass 1,000 by the end of the season … Elizabeth Egerer reached double figures in kills in two of the three matches over the weekend … after its loss to Iowa, UWM is now 0-4 in five-set matches this season … the Panthers also won the first set against both Pacific and Marquette before falling … Pacific is now receiving votes in the AVCA poll after going 3-0 on the weekend.

Woman of the Match
Sammy Vovos put the Panthers ahead with her second goal of the season. She now is tied for the team lead in goals with two in just 133 minutes this season. Sammy gave the team a spark off the bench and her goal came on the corner kick in which she came into the game.
Notes
This was the 30th meeting between Milwaukee and Wisconsin ... the Badgers now lead the series 20-5-5, but the Panthers are 4-3-1 in the last eight meetings ... Hannah Kaul left the game in the second half with an injury, the first time she has not played every minute in a game this season ... Krissy Dorre made her season debut in the starting lineup ... Sky Perna made her first collegiate start ... Wisconsin is the third ranked team the Panthers have faced this season (0-2-1) ... UWM donned its black kits for the first time this season.

InnTowner Invitational Notebook

The Panthers are 5-5 after three weekends, and they’ve been tested every weekend. There’s a good chance four of the five teams that have beaten Milwaukee will be in the NCAA Tournament. Of course, things get no easier this weekend at Marquette, where the three opponents have a combined 22-7 record to date.

Julie Kolinske, OH, So., Big Bend, Wis. Kolinske continues to post big numbers in the early season. She claimed a spot on the all-tournament team by averaging 4.45 kills and 3.27 digs. She had a double-double in each contest this weekend and now has nine this season.

News and Notes
Freshman Maggie Dunbar returned to the UWM starting lineup this weekend and tallied 22 kills over the three matches … the win over Drake was Milwaukee’s third 3-set sweep of the season … meanwhile, UWM is 0-3 in five-set matches this year … against North Dakota State, Julie Kolinske and Elizabeth Egerer each tallied 22 kills. It marked the second match this season where the duo each passed 20 kills … Taylor Golabowski continues to be sidelined by a broken wrist … Anna Bartz has now reached double figures in digs in seven-straight matches … in the five-set match with North Dakota, there were only 10 ties and four lead changes. But, in the three-setter with Wisconsin, there were 35 ties and 13 lead changes.

Panther Invitational Notebook

The Panthers are 4-3 after two weekends against good competition. Two of the three losses have come against likely NCAA Tournament teams (Duke and Western Michigan) while the other came against a vastly improved Bradley team that has won five of its first six matches of the year.

Player of the Week
Rachel Neuberger, MB, Jr., Muskego, Wis. Neuberger was again the most consistent figure for the Panthers over the weekend. She averaged 3.38 kills per set while hitting .359. That has her hitting percentage for the first two weekends of the season at .395. Her best statistical tally of the weekend came vs. Western Michigan, when she collected a collegiate-best 21 kills. Neuberger also contributed 1.12 blocks per set as UWM’s blocking improved over the course of the weekend.

News and Notes
Julie Kolinske continues to pile up some big numbers for UWM. She had double-doubles in three of the four contests and had a collegiate-best 22 kills against Western Michigan. But her dig totals are perhaps the most impressive stat. She had 61 in four matches, including 19 in a three-set win over SEMO … Anna Bartz averaged 4.44 digs per set over the weekend, while Maisey Mulvey added 3.44 digs per set … a number of new faces continue to see playing time for Milwaukee. Sammi Herron had 17 digs Friday night vs. Western Michigan while Nicole Latzig again started all four matches. The weekend also saw sophomore Arianna Wiersma make her Panther debut … Friday night’s match drew 975 fans … Western Michigan was the tournament champion after going a perfect 3-0 on the weekend … the full all-tournament team included: Emily Coon – SEMO; Rachel Neuberger – Milwaukee; Alise Tupuritis – Bradley; Lauren Zerante – Bradley; Ali Goosen - Western Michigan; Jessica Brown - Western Michigan; Lena Oliver - Western Michigan (MVP).

Woman of the Match
Not to take anything away from the players that scored, but I'm going to give the nod to Kelsey Holbert. Holbert looked the most dangerous and did a nice job setting up Amy Kauffung's goal. Kauffung was a close second and the pair give the Panthers a nice future.

Notes
This was the first meeting between the Panthers and Miami (Ohio) ... Steinhauser's goal was the eighth of her career, most among active players on the team ... the loss snapped UWM's 11-game (10-0-1) unbeaten streak at home ... the last time the Panthers scored two goals in a loss was Oct. 1, 2010, at Texas (L, 4-3) ... Milwaukee has conceded four goals in back-to-back games for the first time since 1994.

Duke Invitational Notebook

Week one is in the books for the Panther volleyball team, with two wins and a loss to a Duke team that should compete for the ACC title and be back in the NCAA Tournament.

Each week, we’ll again have a brief notebook to pick some highlights and notes.

Last Week’s Results: 8/24 - def. Fairfield, 3-1; 8/25 - def. William & Mary, 3-1; 8/25 - lost @ Duke, 3-0

This Week Matches: 8/31 - vs. Bradley; 8/31 - vs. Western Michigan; 9/1 - vs. SEMO; 9/1 vs. East Carolina

Player of the Week: Rachel Neuberger, MB, Jr., Muskego, Wis. Neuberger figures to be one of the Panthers’ leaders on both offense and defense this season and she was steady and solid all weekend long. She wound up averaging 3.64 kills per set and committed just five errors all weekend, hitting .449 over the three matches. Her efforts landed her a spot on the Duke Invitational All-Tournament Team.

News and Notes: Kayla Price joined Neuberger on the all-tournament team … the Panthers had never played either Duke or Fairfield before this weekend … UWM is now 2-0 all-time against William & Mary … Susie Johnson is now 3-3 in season openers as the Panthers’ head coach … UWM’s starting lineup in the season opener was plenty young, as freshmen Maggie Dunbar and Nicole Latzig along with sophomores Julie Kolinske and Kayla Price earned nods in the opening seven … the 9-10 person rotation for the weekend also included two other freshmen – Maisey Mulvey and Sammi Herron … Milwaukee looks like it will have a balanced defensive effort in the back row, as four players finished the weekend averaging at leads 2.3 digs per set … Latzig made a nice mark on defense in the front row, averaging better than a block per set … Kolinske had double-doubles in all three matches over the weekend and opened the year with a 19-kill effort against Fairfield.
