Aztec Invite Recap
About one day after Milwaukee closed the book on a four-game tournament in San Diego, here's a look back and a few thoughts on the Panthers outings at the Aztec Invitational.
RECAP: All-in-all, it was a good tournament for UWM. Sure, the team finished 1-3 record-wise, but the Panthers were in every game and played well throughout. Take into account who Milwaukee was playing, and the fact they had a combined score of 23-13 says a lot about how this team handles going up against some of the better teams in the country.
MVP: The starting pitching easily earns this award. Combined, the four starters finished with 24.2 innings pitched, gave up 23 hits and nine walks, while also striking out nine and giving up just 15 runs. Considering the offenses they were going against (San Diego pounded out 13 runs against Cal State Northridge one day before Schneider held them to just four hits), those are incredible numbers.
ALL-TOURNAMENT: While the team was already on the plane back to the Midwest, it was announced freshman Luke Meeteer was named to the All-Tournament Team. The speedy newcomer went 5-15 against some very quality pitching and tallied two runs and two RBI from the lead off spot.
GETTING NOTICED: College Baseball Today & ESPN reporter Eric Sorenson was covering part of the Aztec Invite and UWM made a bit of an impression on him. Check out his full write up here.
UP NEXT: The Panthers continue life on the road, heading to Arkansas-Little Rock this weekend. The Trojans are another good team (currently 8-3) and should provide another good challenge for this young Milwaukee team.
