Here is a note from the athletics world that will benefit UWM's School of Engineering, as the estate of late NASCAR standout Alan Kulwicki is making a large donation to his alma mater.
Kulwicki, a Wisconsin native, died in a plane crash in April 1993. He graduated from UWM in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
A number of spots on the web have this story, but a good summary is located here.
The estate is also making a donation to UNC Charlotte, which actually has a motorsports engineering program.

NCAA Stats Favor Hagen, Megna
According to the NCAA statistics released this afternoon, the Panthers have two of the nation's top offensive players in sophomore Sarah Hagen and senior Kate Megna.
Hagen, on the strength of a seven-game goal-scoring streak, is second in the nation with 16 goals and fifth with 1.067 goals per game. Her 36 points are tied for second, while her 2.40 points per game are tied for fifth.
On the other hand, Megna is tied for the national lead with 11 assists this season. Her average of 0.79 assists per game has her second. Megna tied the school record for career assists with her 26th career helper Oct. 2 at Butler. She has since made the mark all her own with five assists over her last two games.
Weiland Takes A Stand At Al's Run
By all accounts, UWM assistant track & field coach Nate Weiland successfully defended his Al's Run title in Milwaukee on Saturday. But, he made a splash by evading the finish line and the volunteers holding the tape, then refused his award out of protest.
The race was covered by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, complete with quotes from Nate. The story is here.
An alum of the Milwaukee track and cross country program, Nate's protest was over the disqualification of the top two runners in the Lakefront Marathon the week prior.
Also running in the race was former Panther Holly Nearman, who took second. The 2008 women's champion, Nearman finished up her final year of eligibility in 2009.
Nate's winning time was 24:35, 43 seconds better than second place and 23 seconds better than his winning time last season (24:58). Holly, meanwhile, was just nine seconds off the winning time at 28:49 and nearly a minute better than last year (28:45).

Horizon League People's Choice
Sophomore Sarah Hagen of women's soccer won the People's Choice Award this week by the Horizon League Network. That netted her an appearance on the site. The People's Choice is selected among the league's athletes of the week by fans on the website.
Here is her interview with HLN's Damon Lewis:
"Apple" has been on fire with goals in her last five games, including a school record-tying four goals on Sunday. This week was her third-straight Player of the Week award and she was also named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week.

OnMilwaukee.com - The Hill
OnMilwaukee.com was out at "The Hill" a few weeks ago to put together a feature on the preseason conditioning work done by the UWM men.
You can find the video here.
You might note that in a couple of frames of the video, you can see UWM radio play-by-play guy Bill Johnson taking a shot at the hill, as well. That was for a feature that will run on this year's "Rob Jeter Show" on Sports 32.
