Man of the Match: Again, always good to have a handful of options, but have to go with freshman Gerardo Saavedra, who had a terrific goal on a free kick and also a beautiful assist on a corner kick that was headed in by freshman Richard Johnson. Saavedra was named the MVP of the 37th Panther Invitational for his efforts.
Between the Pipes: Junior John Shakon was at his best over the weekend, finishing with the ninth and 10th shutouts of his UWM career in the 2-0 and 4-0 victories.
Back of the Net: The Panthers are off to a fast start, scoring seven goals in their first three games of 2011. Saavedra and Refai both have two already and five different players have already found the back of the net.
Up Next: It doesn't get any bigger for the UWM schedule, taking on Marquette for the Milwaukee Cup Friday, with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m. at Engelmann Stadium.
