Full League ESPN Schedule

As noted on the main site yesterday, UWM's men and women will each get at least one national TV slot as part of the Horizon League's ESPNU Game of the Week package. Those are two of at least 21 games involving league teams on the ESPN networks this year. The full list is below, so you can set the DVR and do some scouting on the rest of the league.

ESPN made official the 2010 BracketBusters pool this week. We already knew UWM would get to play a home game in the event, but now we know the full list of possible opponents for that day.

Most UWM fans probably know the drill by now ... ESPN will pick 11 televised matchups and then the rest of the games are set up based on geography, records and other scheduling concerns. So, the road teams that UWM could play, broken down by league, are ...

SIU Edwardsville is also a road team in the event, but since UWM already plays SIUE this January that won't be a matchup. And, it is also possible Indiana State and Milwaukee could play in Baton Rouge in the NIT event, so that would mean the Sycamores would be eliminated from the list for UWM, as well.

As a side note, league schools also playing home games are Butler, Cleveland State, Detroit and Green Bay. Those playing road games are Loyola, UIC, Wright State, Valpo and Youngstown State.

Hagen Named A CS360 Primetime Performer

Sarah Hagen was selected as a Primetime Performer of the Week this week by CollegeSoccer360.com. The site's complete list can be found here. Hagen was also named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The sophomore from Appleton, Wis., scored goals in both of the Panthers' games last weekend. Most notably, her goal Friday gave Milwaukee a 1-0 lead at No. 11 Purdue. The Boilermakers converted a penalty kick late in the second half, but UWM still came away with a draw against a ranked team--the program's fifth.

This Week At UWMPanthers.com

The top stories at uwmpanthers.com are Sarah Hagen earning Horizon League Player of the Week honors and the women's volleyball weekly release. Weekly releases for both soccers will be posted by the end of the day Tuesday.

Podcasts are already posted for men's soccer and volleyball and can be found here. Women's soccer will be posted Tuesday in conjunction with the weekly release. Cross Country has the weekend off, so there will be now preview show this week.

A Look Back At The Week That Was

- Women's volleyball went 2-1 last week, opening the league season over the weekend in Chicago. The Panthers beat Loyola, but fell to UIC. This week is a light week for them, with only one match. The team heads to Green Bay Friday to take on the Phoenix.

- Like volleyball, women's soccer has just one game this week, hosting Loyola Friday. It will be the league opener after a rigorous non-league schedule. The Panthers tied No. 11 Purdue on Friday, but fell at Illinois Sunday.

- Men's soccer finally got to play in front of the home crowd last weekend, hosting the annual Panther Invitational--the longest-running Division I tourney in the nation. UWM overcame a 2-0 deficit on Sunday, but lost to Oakland, 3-2, to finish 0-2. The team also faced No. 9 UC Santa Barbrara on the weekend.

- Cross country ran its biggest meet of the season and continues to improve. The men's team took fifth in the 15-team Midwest Open, hosted by UW-Parkside. The women placed eighth among 16 teams. Four men finished among the top 20 to highlight the weekend. As mentioned, both teams have off this weekend.

What To Look For At UWMPanthers.com

With the return to the five-day work week, uwmpanthers.com returns to (mostly) Monday postings. Right now, the top story is Maddie Sueppel being named the Horizon league Defensive Player of the Week. The Volleyball team heads to Northern Illinois tomorrow, so a weekly release should follow shortly.

Men's and women's soccer will have weekly releases posted by the end of the day Tuesday. Meanwhile, the coaches' show podcasts will also be there (or more accurately, here). The Jon Coleman Show (men's soccer) is already available for download.

We've added the Cross Country Preview Show with head coach Pete Corfeld. His show is posted every Tuesday in advance of the Panthers in action. That show is available here.

A Look Back At The Week That Was:

- Cross Country had a triumphant weekend, with senior Abbie Zaspel winning the Huskie Invitational and the men's squad taking first place in the team standings. Sophomore Chris Schuenke led Panthers in the 2-5 positions to seal the victory for UWM. This weekend, bot teams have a home meet of sorts, running close by at the Parkside Invitational in Kenosha.

- Volleyball, as mentioned, gets its week started early at NIU Tuesday. The team then opens league play this weekend with the two Chicago schools (UIC & Loyola). The Panthers hosted the annual Panther Invitational, posting a 1-3 mark.

- Men's Soccer returned home from California, where it dropped a pair of one-goal decisions at the Matador Challenge. This weekend, Milwaukee hosts the 36th Annual Panther Invitational. The tourney is the longest-running tournament in NCAA Division I soccer.

- Women's Soccer continued its brutal non-conference schedule last weekend, losing games to Minnesota and Iowa. The Panthers closes out non-league play this weekend at Purdue and Illinois. Both teams were ranked in the top 11 in the nation last weekend.

On the road with the men's soccer team...

Former UWM All-American Tony Sanneh, who is now playing for the L.A. Galaxy, stopped by to watch the Panthers take on Cal State Fullerton. He took a few minutes after the game for a quick interview.

Madison All-Tournament Team

With UWM playing the early game Sunday, the all-tournament team for the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitational in Madison was not named until after the Badgers just got by Western Illinois, winning 1-0 on a goal with three seconds left. That gave the team title to Virginia Tech.

Anyways, congrats to senior Nkuti Ndely and to freshman John Shakon, who were both named to the squad.

A Look Back At The Week That Was:

- Men's soccer got the season underway at Marquette and with the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitational. The Panthers are 1-2 heading into this week after taking third at the tourney with a 1-1 mark. UWM heads to California this weekend for the Big West Challenge.

- Volleyball posted a 1-3 mark at the Magnolia Classic, hosted by Ole Miss. The Panthers will be looking to get back on the winning track this weekend, hosting the Panther Invitational. UWM will play two games at the Klotsche Center both Friday and Saturday.

- The women's soccer played in arguably the top tournament in the nation this weekend, dropping a pair of tough contests at Notre Dame's Inn at St. Mary's Classic. The tourney featured No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Notre Dame, Milwaukee and Marquette, both of which was receiving votes at the beginning of the week. The Panthers host nationally-ranked Minnesota Friday and head to Iowa on Sunday this weekend.

- Cross Country opened the 2009 campaigned and posted a combined six wins at the UIC Home Opener. Senior Abbie Zaspel took second on the women's side, which went 3-0. Meanwhile, for the men, freshman Jake Reilly took second in the first cross country of his life (yeah... LIFE). Milwaukee heads to the Huskie Invitational Saturday in DeKalb, Ill.
